The funds raised from this dinner will be focused on acquiring housing in the DFW area for patients and their families and to create Bikur Cholim respite rooms stocked with kosher food in area hospitals.

Meet our Honorees

Rabbi Sharon & Avishag Cohen
Nachshon Ben Aminadav Award

Rabbi Sharon and Avishag Cohen have been members of DATA's Kollel and the Dallas community for 15 years. During that time, they became the address for those visiting Dallas for medical procedures from Israel, Mexico, New York and other religious communities around the world. They have spent their own resources and time to provide whatever visiting patients and their families needed. Even procuring an apartment to house these traveling families as well. Their efforts stemmed from their personal exemplary characteristics and their belief that the Torah needed to be lived the way it was learned. For those who have been privileged to hear classes from Rabbi Sharon Cohen, they can attest to that consistency.

Carole and Joram Wolanow
Community Service Award

Carole and Joram Wolanow have been mainstays in community service in Dallas for many years. From volunteering with JFS at the food pantry to serving on diverse boards across Dallas, Joram and Carole's involvment, experience and can do attitude have been a source of strength for countless organizations including Bikur Cholim of Dallas. BCD has come to rely on The Sarah Shannahoff Memorial Medical Equipment Gemach as one of the pillars of the services we provide. BCD is also fortunate to have Carole's involvement on our board as we begin to follow her and Joram's example of service to the Dallas Jewish community.

Rabbi Shais Taub is one of the most sought- after speakers in the Jewish world today. He has inspired audiences of all backgrounds on six continents and The New York Times called him “a phenomenon."

He wrote a popular weekly advice column in Ami Magazine for eight years and is the author of the bestselling book God of Our Understanding: Jewish Spirituality and Recovery from Addiction.

He has developed several groundbreaking works on Tanya including: the Tanya Map teaching tool, the JLI Soul Maps curriculum, and the audio series Mapping the Tanya.

He serves as permanent scholar-in-residence at Chabad of the Five Towns in Cedarhurst, New York and directs the Torah website SoulWords.org where thousands of hours of his classes on a wide variety of Jewish topics may be viewed.
