Bikur Cholim holds 2nd community Shabbos Bag Fill

Updated: Jun 1, 2022

Staying in the hospital can be difficult, aside from the medical challenges that someone is involved in, the necessity to find kosher food and basic items for shabbos, grape juice, a kiddush cup, challah, lights and havdallah are not even on the radar. Further, the hospital can feel cold and sterile, unlike the warm shabbos experience that many are used to compounding feelings of loneliness and despair, Sometimes a small gesture from a chaplain or a volunteer bearing some sweets and shabbos supplies make things feel more like home.

Bikur Cholim of Dallas to the Rescue!

Over 40 volunteers of all ages came together to pack another 100 bags to deliver to local area hospitals. Organized by BCD board member Sarah Heimowitz. Children colored special cards designed by BCD board member Dina Ravitsky and volunteers packed grape juice, a kiddush cup, havdallah supplies, brownies, cookies, and sweets courtesy of Aliza Rodin. 30 challah rolls were furnished by Friendship Circle of Dallas's Leah Dubrawsky that were a result of a challah baking event organized as Kameron Hoffman as his bar mitzvah project.
